Letter to Local 1825 - 3/1/2022: Gov. Bryan Signs CBA

March 1, 2022

Great news, Members!

Thanks to all who made Friday’s Black History Month mixer such a success. Local 1825 not only celebrated with the community the history of those who have paved ways for us, but the event served as an occasion to celebrate our future. As I previously mentioned, Gov. Albert Bryan pledged his support of Local 1825 on Friday evening. Today, I am excited to announce that he has reinforced his commitment by signing the renewed St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix Federation of Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, members can expect salary increases beginning late spring. Albeit Gov. Bryan signed the agreement on Monday, time is needed to allow the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Finance to officially release the funding and the U.S. Virgin Islands Division of Personnel to process each member’s Notification of Personnel Action (NOPA). I will provide periodic updates until payments are released.

I would like to thank all our members and those involved in this process, especially AFT National Representative George Bordenave and Gov. Bryan, for their roles in this endeavor. It is such a privilege and honor to serve as your president and witness this juncture. We should be sure to congratulate each other at every opportune moment because this was indeed a collective effort. It proves the arduous work of St. Thomas-St. John Local 1825 has not gone unnoticed, and while this does not mean our work will get any easier, we have made critical strides without a doubt.

As always, I am here for Local 1825, as we should be here for each other.

Yours in Solidarity,
